Designers trained in the nuances of Colonial decorating, purposefully selected three distinct color schemes - red, green and blue to reflect popular Colonial color palettes in our guest rooms. Simple, balanced lines in the wooden trim and moldings noted throughout the rooms show graced detailing. Wool carpeting patterned after Colonial style rugs from the 18th century adorn the floors. The toile curtains and bed skirts were French in origin but were heavily influenced by Asian art in the 18th century. These fabrics are designed to replicate the fabrics used during the time our country was developing into the original 13 colonies. The bed quilts, though no longer hand-made, are in keeping with the quaint feel of a historical Inn.
The charm of The Founders Inn and Spa interior treasures are evident in its historical architectural, interior design elements, art masterpieces and antique furnishings. Though built in 1991, The Founders Inn and Spa was created in historic Georgian Colonial style. Magnificent millwork is noted throughout the property, particularly at the arch of the Atrium, and the Chippendale railing. Antique woodwork furnishings created by both Hepplewhite and Chippendale reside in lounging areas throughout the lobby. The Lobby Room houses an 18th century muffinery, and an American-made mahogany inlaid Hepplewhite sideboard with spade feet, circa 1820. At the main entrance, 18th century wood rent table, 8 feet in diameter greets guests. Lead crystal chandeliers from Austria, dangle in the main lobby. The hardwood floors, as seen in the main entrance area, are made of a long leaf variety of heart pine sourced from barns matured over two to three hundred years. Artwork, displayed in some locations and subtly in others, complements the interior design with historic dignity and the impressionistic expertise of artistic masters. Portraits of the first four United States presidents hang on either side of the entrance to the Fireplace Lobby. Our luxurious guest rooms are enhanced by superb amenities designed for the discerning traveler.
